EXCITING CHANGES AT ASHWATER DENTAL PRACTICE

After much thought and consideration we will be merging the practice with another well-established private dental practice in Wokingham - smile2o, only a short distance away at 20 Denton Road.

Over the last 13 years Ashwater has always strived to provide the highest standards for each individual patient, tailoring the service and care to each of you and providing this within pleasant and relaxing surroundings.  The team at smile2 o share the same ethos and standard of personal commitment to each individual patient.

We are delighted that the team will be making the move with you all, ensuring that our patients will continue to receive their personal attention.  Lynne and Lynda have both been with me since the launch of Ashwater Dental and they will be at smile2 o to care for you at your next appointment.  Lesley Denning and Ian Cooper will also be at smile2o to provide dental care to their patients.

My patients will benefit from ongoing care with Henriette Williams, an experienced dentist with a very similar approach to preventive dentistry as my own.  This will ensure that you will all continue to receive the same level of care and treatment that I have provided for you in the past.

Our new home from 21st April 2008 is 20 Denton Road, Wokingham.

We have the same telephone number and e-mail address as before.

We look forward to seeing you at your next appointment in our new location.

Q U I T

Cigarette

Smoking in enclosed public places and workplaces is to be banned from 1st July.

Ashwater dental practice recommends giving up smoking as it is one of the main causes of mouth cancer and can make existing gum disease worse.

Benefits of giving up include:

  • Better oral health - more likely to keep your teeth for life.
  • Less risk of heart disease and lung cancer
  • Cost

For help with giving up smoking, see our website (Tell Me about Giving up Smoking) or contact our Oral Health Advisor, Lynne, for advice and support.

Good luck if you try to give up on the 1st July

"WEB SHOP" - helping our community

As a dental practice in the heart of the town we like to help our local community in as many ways as possible - our patients are part of that community. Wescott and Westende schools PTA have a web shop so if you order online and access the stores via www.westende.wokingham.sch.uk they get a percentage of the value of your order. It doesn't cost you anything but really helps the local schools.

Check out the shops on www.westende.wokingham.sch.uk examples of the stores: Amazon, M & S, Gameplay, John Lewis, Comet, Oddbins, ELC

Thank You

How often should I visit the dentist?

The interval between dental check-ups is something we have always taken seriously at Ashwater and have discussed with the patient.

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) published some guidelines recently on the recall interval between dental examinations.

You may have seen the headlines in the papers.

We have always treated patients as individuals and given them a recall interval that is suited to THEIR NEEDS. We already knew a 6 month check-up wasn’t appropriate for all our patients!

Issues to be considered when deciding on your next appointment

Effects of oral hygiene, diet, fluoride use.

Risk factors that may affect oral health eg Tobacco

Outcomes of previous treatment

We look forward to seeing you at your next appointment.

Have you ever had problems visualising dental treatment and biological "goings-on" in your mouth? The British Dental Association's educational new website www.3Dmouth.org gives information on all aspects of oral health, alongside computerised 3D images of the mouth, which will certainly attempt to combat those concerns.

The website, which has been developed using the latest gaming technology, has sections focusing on the life of teeth, conditions, treatments, dental anatomy, oral hygiene and diet advice.  Information is made clearer through the use of detailed 3D diagrams, as well as easy to understand explanations.

Although the website has been developed to make learning more fun for children, it will also be very useful for all patients who feel they need more clarity.

Of course, if you are unsure about any area of your treatment, our dentists would be more than happy to draw a diagram or two!
