Pharaoh Teeth

Grave robbers in Egypt, caught digging at the step pyramid at Saqqara, near Cairo - believed to be Egypt's oldest pyramid led archaeologists to the tombs of three royal dentists, identified as such by tow hieroglyphs showing an eye over a tusk.  Egyptian kings respected their dentists so had them buried within their pyramids.  teh grave of the chief dentist, whose name is spelled out as Ly Mry, is protected by a curse written near the entrance.  The inscription has been translated as 'Anyone who enters my tomb will be eaten by a crocodile and a snake'.  Figures painted inside the tomb depict scenes from the dentist daily life with his family

The Bigger Picture for 2007

The condition of the mouth can both reflect and affect one's general wellbeing, a healthy mouth relies on a healthy diet.  Not only reducing sugar intake but also eating balanced meals with fruit and vegetables.  It is no secret that practicing good oral hygiene on a daily basis is fundamental not only to secure the 'Hollywood smile' but also to avoid periodontal and systemic diseases.  The inflammatory process associated with gum diseases allows bacteria easier access from the mouth to the bloodstream and can have an impact on systemic body responses.  So improving oral health may result in overall health benefits.  Many studies show links with periodontal disease and coronary heart disease, diabetes and pre-term low birth weight babies.  So from Ashwater Dental Practice we wish you a healthy new year.

Bishop's 200-year-old simile

A 200-year-old set of false teeth that belonged to a French archbishop are on display today for the first time in the Museum of London.  The porcelain dentures with gold springs, were found by archaeologists on a dig in London, they belonged to the Archbishop of Narbonne, Arthur Richard Dillion who fled to England in 1791 to escape the French Revolution.  Such dentures were invented in France in the 1770's.

Wokingham Times

According to our local newspaper some research carried out by a Bracknell company discovered it was less stressful visiting the dentist than telephoning a call centre.

Hopefully calling our lovely receptionists doesn't raise your stress levels.  Look forward to hearing from you this year.
