Autumn 2004

Smile – It’s Oral Health Month!

September is Oral Health Month, which sees Colgate, the British Dental Association and many dental practices across the country collaborating to improve people’s oral health. This year’s key messages will drive awareness of the public, that it is never too late to change habits and improve your oral health. Ashwater, with our strong belief in preventive dentistry, aim to support the important messages of Oral Health Month. So, if you’re heading back to school or work after a long relaxing summer, why not make sure your mouth is in tip-top shape? Our dentists can show you the best ways to maintain your oral health and keep smiling!

Tea Time!

As summer comes to an end, thoughts of barbecues and ice cream are slowly replaced by more seasonal cuisines and other matters of healthy eating. Tea, it seems, could not only warm you up in the colder months ahead, but also help to protect your teeth against decay. It has been hailed as being as good as mouthwash at protecting teeth against caries, according to scientists at Pace University, New York (although they don’t specify which mouthwash!). Ordinary tea holds antiviral and antibacterial properties, to ward off micro organisms, whereas strong, caffeinated green tea is apparently the most protective type. This is all good news for your teeth… but I’m not so sure a strong cup of caffeinated tea would compliment a good night’s sleep, as well as a brush before bedtime…

Mask Your Mobile

The widespread use of mobiles has definitely made communication easier, but the fact that you can theoretically be caught at anytime, anyplace has become a burden to some people. One thoughtful entrepreneur has come up with a solution, a program to play background noises to mask where you really are – even a dental practice background is available…That’s strange, you’ve already had 5 checkups this month…

Introducing…

…an exciting edition to the Oral-B Advance Power 900 range – a funky electric toothbrush, designed for teenagers. Made up of bright colours, including purple, pink, blue and green, with glittery handles for added effect, “Advance Power Brights” not only look great, but the small, cup-shaped head ensures all areas of the mouth are cleaned competently.

Brace Yourself

The internet helps to cater for the needs of most people…now including the interests of individuals who want fake fixed brace appliances! The site www.silversmiles.com was apparently started in 1998 and has been very popular. Maybe braces could turn out to be the latest fashion trend!
