The crown may be made of porcelain (tooth coloured and very life like), porcelain bonded to a precious metal or gold and it is fitted over your existing tooth. Your dentist will discuss the design with you before treatment commences so you are happy with how the crown will look and function. A crown may provide a way of improving the appearance of a tooth by changing the colour and/or shape of your natural tooth. You may need a crown if a tooth is too badly decayed just for a filling.
