Crowns and Bridges

The crown or bridge may be porcelain (tooth-coloured), porcelain bonded to a precious metal or gold and is fitted over your existing tooth and/or root.

Your dentist will discuss the design with you before treatment starts.

You will usually need two appointments:

Appt 1

  • Tooth/teeth are prepared.

  • Impressions are taken to send to the laboratory.

  • Temporary crown or bridge is fitted

Appt 2

This usually takes place after 2 weeks.

  • Temporary crown/bridge is removed.

  • Permanent crown/bridge is fitted.

Care of your crown or bridge

It functions like your other teeth.

Good tooth brushing is essential to avoid decay or gum disease.

Ideally floss once a day. Use superfloss under your bridge. The dentist/Oral health educator will show you how to do this.

Have regular check-ups.
