Beating baD BREATH

Bad breath (or halitosis, to use its technical name) is a very common problem and Ashwater Dental Practice can help you with many of the causes of bad breath, so please tell your dentist if you are concerned about bad breath.

So what are the causes of bad breath? They include:

  • build-up of bacteria in the plaque/tartar on your teeth

  • bits of food that get caught between your teeth

  • some medical problems

  • strongly flavoured food e.g. onions, garlic

  • smoking

How do we help our patients with bad breath? We arrange a consultation to find the reasons for the halitosis. We will throughly clean your teeth by scaling and polishing them. Regular check-ups will allow your dentist to watch out for areas that are difficult for you to clean.

How can I prevent bad breath?

You will need to get rid of any gum disease and keep your mouth clean and fresh:

  • brush teeth and gums twice a day

  • use a fluoride toothpaste

  • use floss once a day

  • if you wear dentures, make sure that you clean them thoroughly

  • see your dentist regularly
